## Definition

Gastric emptying is the rate at which food leaves the stomach into the small intestine.

## Extended

GLP-1 receptor agonists deliberately slow gastric emptying to increase satiety. This mechanism causes early nausea during titration and affects timing of meals and oral medicines.
