## Definition

Obesity is a chronic disease of excess adiposity impairing health, in India often defined as BMI ≥25–30 depending on context and comorbidities.

## Extended

ICMR recognises obesity as relapsing and requiring long-term care. GLP-1 pharmacotherapy may be considered at BMI ≥27.5 or ≥25 with comorbidities after lifestyle intervention. In India, these concepts appear in RSSDI and ICMR guidance for type 2 diabetes and obesity care—always confirm details with your prescribing physician.
